Role
For this Project I worked as a level designer.
Overview
Dough or Die is a cooking combat game. For this game I designed an arena for the combat stage based in a construction pit.
Work
Pre-Production
- For this project I was brought on as extra help. Which meant I was working off an existing framework.
- I had to adapt and work using references and a map that was half developed

- My main goal with this project was to make a cohesive play space that felt realistic.
- I researched construction sites and turned that environment into an arena with appropriate hazards.
Greyboxing
First Pass

- My first pass focused on verticality and allowing the player and enemy multiple ways to traverse.
- I also wanted to make the environment feel alive so I incorporated breakable objects in blue and hazards in red.

Issues
- The biggest issue was player and enemy start. Their starts did not incentivize players to utilize the different map locations or hazards in any way.
Second Pass

- On this pass I moved the player and enemy onto higher ground
- In this new layout the player and enemy both have a larger selection of routes to take
- The main issue with this layout is that the player has more routes and the enemy is still limited
Final Pass

- The final pass aimed to solve the issues from the other two designs
- This design gave the player and enemy both three separate ways to traverse
- Many of these different routes utilize new hazards and breakable objects to change the feel wherever the player goes
- This final map was an amalgamation of design learned from the past iterations on the level as well as guide from the team lead.
- The deadline for this map was a week which required a quick turnaround and iteration process
