Overview

Overgrown was SCAD's first collaborative yearlong project conducted within the Game Design major. The project was also led alongside SCAD's animation department. The game focuses on a botanist named Lily fighting her way through an overgrown museum of natural history!

Role

I worked on this project as a game designer, level designer, and as part of the implementation team!

Work

Level Design

This was a small legend I created when we began documentation on our level design, while this legend is slightly rudimentary it helped us keep track of our scope and helped implementation and tech once we began placing blueprints in game.

These images are ones that were constructed pre-blockout to finalize an idea for certain rooms as well as to convey the rooms better to our art team! (Click on gallery to view full images)

After having designed and laid out the floor plan for each level I was tasked with greyboxing levels both in our marine biology and zoology areas

A very base set dress by me and our other designers pushed the design further along. Our wonderful implementation team was able to re-factor our designs to make the rooms look as good as possible when finished!

Implementation

Our art team made fantastic textures for us to use in Overgrown, however we needed a person to implement all art into engine. I ended up atlasing and implementing 100+ different textures for the game!

Late into the project design team wanted to add connecting hallways to the main rooms to build out our game further. I was tasked with set dressing many of the hallways in the zoology section of the map.
